Blaze Entertainment approached Design by Datum to help them expand their product family from a single hand-held console to a stand-alone unit which can be hooked up to a TV and accept up to 4 players.
Our brief was to create a detailed concept and a design language which drew from their existing product and the consoles of the 80s & 90s.
Retro Video Console
Blaze Entertainment requested a functional aesthetic which represented the new consoles superior technical performance.
Blaze asked us to create a selection of concepts for a retro games console for the TV unit. We explored concepts with styles representing gaming through the decades. The chosen concept was one drawing inspiration from consoles systems of the 1980s.
We then converted the selected concepts into 3D CAD which was used to create prototypes further the development of the console.
