Able Systems Ltd have been producing thermal handheld printers for the last 30 years. Design By Datum worked with electronics engineers and their expert sales team to design the mechanical elements of their newest line of handheld printers.
The AP1700 needed to house a range of electronics components and out perform Ables existing printer offerings in both speed and print quality.
The design also needed to bring a modern aesthetic to Able Printer range as well as improve durability and ease of use.
We built block models to get a sense of how the product feels in the hand. We utilised 3D printed prototypes to refine the user interface and user interaction with the product.
Satisfied with our ergonomics and button layout we continued refining the details placing components and optimising design for manufacture.
